About Ashland University Students in Free Enterprise

What is SIFE?
Founded in 1975 with the goal of developing America's future business leaders, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is part of an international non-profit organization made up of college students from around the world who come together to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills through learning, practicing and teaching the principles of free enterprise.

What does SIFE do?
Throughout the year, Ashland University SIFE creates a variety of projects with the goal of empowering others by providing them with the education and the tools necessary to be successful in a free market economy.

In March, we travel to Cleveland (Road Trip!!!) and participate in the SIFE Regional Competition, where we give a 24-minute presentation of all of the projects that we have done over the course of the previous year. We are judged on six different criteria, including market economics, success skills, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, business ethics, and sustainability. In two out of the past three years, we have won the regional competition and traveled to Kansas City and Dallas to represent the Cleveland/Midwest region at the SIFE National Competition.

What does that mean?
Basically, we think of ideas on how we can teach people, from elementary students to community members, and even entrepreneurs how to be successful in business and in life. We work with all age groups and education levels, and have plenty of opportunities to learn and network with professionals from a variety of industries. We have a lot of fun, and if we work hard enough, we are rewarded with a week-long trip to the SIFE National Exposition in May.

How can I join?
Any undergraduate student at Ashland University is welcome to join. Our meetings are typically held every other Tuesday in room 111 of the Dauch College of Business and Economics. If you just want to find out more about what SIFE is about, but are not sure if you want to commit, you are more than welcome to sit in on one of our meetings. To find out when our next meeting is, email Alex Curavo at acuravo@ashland.edu, or call (419) 289-5228.
